New NHM President Named

David Roland Assumes Presidency

The Board of Trustees of the National Health Museum has announced that David H. Roland has been named President of the organization.  He replaces J. Mark Dunham who has departed to lead a Washington, DC-based public affairs initiative.

Roland has overseen NHM’s operations, programs and planning since 2004.  He has been an award-winning health media pioneer for more than thirty-five years, during which he started and ran a variety of production and distribution companies including medical communications firms and public broadcasting stations.

“We look forward to working closely with David as he builds our organization of the future and takes NHM to new heights, and we wish Mark every success in his new endeavors,” said NHM Chairman Louis W. Sullivan, MD, in announcing the change.  “The Board of Trustees is enormously grateful to Mark for his dedicated leadership and the service he has provided to NHM throughout his tenure,” Sullivan added.  “His commitment to this project has been exemplary.”

“Mark has been an indispensable figure in NHM’s development,” said founding Chairman and Chairman Emeritus C. Everett Koop, MD, ScD.  “The skills, integrity, and determination he has provided this endeavor have been outstanding.  I value the opportunity we have had to work together and deeply appreciate his service.”

Dunham, who has accepted a position with the Generations of Hope Development Corporation in Washington, said that “the opportunity to participate in the evolution and development of the NHM concept has been simply extraordinary.  I look forward to remaining a strong advocate for the project as it advances in Atlanta and realizes its full potential to improve human health in the United States and throughout the world.”
