Nation's Ob-Gyns Support NHM
The National Health Museum is pleased to announce
that the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists
(ACOG), the nation's leading group of professionals providing
health care for women, has made a $75,000 pledge to the Museum's
development.
The pledge, made as part of the Museum's Federation of Medicine Campaign, has earned ACOG designation
as a Benefactor of the Campaign, a major initiative designed
to involve the nation's leading medical specialty organizations
in the Museum's development.
"The museum's potential to empower and motivate individuals
to take charge of their health cannot be overstated,"
comments ACOG Executive Vice President Ralph W. Hale, MD.
"ACOG is excited to be involved in this worthwhile project,
which will offer outstanding support for one of the College's
goals, to promote patient education and stimulate patient
understanding of and involvement in medical care."
Founded in 1951, ACOG has a membership of 45,000 medical
professionals dedicated to:
- Serving as a strong advocate for quality health care for
women.
- Maintaining the highest standards of clinical practice
and continuing education for its members.
- Promoting patient education and stimulating patient understanding
of and involvement in medical care.
- Increasing awareness among its members and the public
of the changing issues facing women's health care.
"We are proud to have earned the support
of ACOG, one of the nation's most respected medical organizations
and an indisputable leader in patient education," said
J. Mark Dunham, Acting NHM President. "Their commitment
to better educated patients and health care consumers is very
much in concert with the Museum's mission. We are delighted
to welcome them to the Federation of Medicine campaign and
look forward to working with them in pursuit of our common
goals."
The Federation of Medicine Campaign was launched by the
NHM to provide the nation's medical specialty and subspecialty
groups, as well as state medical societies, with an opportunity
to support and participate in the Museum's development. Undertaken
with the cooperation and support of the American Medical Association
(AMA), the Campaign seeks to engender the backing of the 103
organizations that comprise the AMA's Federation of Medicine.
ACOG's gift will be used to support overall
Museum operations, including ongoing efforts to secure a location
at the national Mall. It will also help support Access
Excellence, the Museum's award-winning website for
health and life science teachers and learners.
