Public Health Leader Peggy Hamburg to Assume Key Role
May 20, 2009– The nomination of NHM Trustee Margaret “Peggy” Hamburg to serve as Commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration was confirmed by the United States Senate on May 18. In addition to serving as a member of the NHM Board, Hamburg also chairs the NHM Program Committee that oversees project planning and content development.
“We congratulate our friend and fellow Trustee Peggy Hamburg on her confirmation by the U.S. Senate as FDA Commissioner,” said NHM Chairman Louis W. Sullivan, MD. “She is a dedicated physician and public health profession who is superbly qualified to fill this very important position. While we regret that her new responsibilities will require her to leave her position on the NHM Board, our loss will inded be the nation’s gain.”
Hamburg’s role as Chair of the NHM Program Committee has been assumed by Trustee Mike Magee, MD.
