Founded in 1906, AAM is dedicated to promoting excellence
within the museum community. Through advocacy, professional
education, information exchange, accreditation, and guidance
on current professional standards of performance, AAM assists
museum staff, boards, and volunteers across the country to
better serve the public. AAM is the only organization representing
the entire scope of museums and professionals and nonpaid
staff who work for and with museums. AAM currently represents
more than 16,000 members--11,500 individual museum professionals
and volunteers, 3,100 institutions, and 1,700 corporate members.
Every type of museum is represented by the more than 3,100
institutional members, including art, history, science, military
and maritime, and youth museums, as well as aquariums, zoos,
botanical gardens, arboretums, historic sites, and science
and technology centers.
American
Public Health Association (APHA),

APHA
is the oldest and largest organization of public health professionals
in the world, representing more than 50,000 members from over
50 occupations of public health. APHA has been influencing
policies and setting priorities in public health for more
than 125 years, and has been in the forefront of numerous
efforts to prevent disease and promote health. APHA's activities
span scientific and practice programs, publications, annual
meeting, awards program, educational services, and advocacy
efforts.

of Science-Technology Centers (ASTC),

As
an organization of science centers and museums dedicated to
furthering the public understanding of science, ASTC encourages
excellence and innovation in informal science learning by
serving and linking its members worldwide and advancing their
common goals. With more than 550 members, ASTC provides, through
a variety of programs and services, professional development
for the science center field, promotes best practices, supports
effective communication, strengthens the position of science
centers within the community at large, and fosters the creation
of successful partnerships and collaborations.
National
Health Museum (NHM), Washington, DC

Established in 1996, NHM is the ongoing result of decades
of aspirations and efforts by individuals who share a dream
of a place for learning and inspiration about health at the
national Mall. NHM will educate, engage and inspire people
to understand the past, present and future of health and health
science and empower them to act upon that information to enhance
their individual, family and community health. The Museum's
efforts currently focus on securing a prominent location near
the national Mall in Washington, DC. Additionally, the Museum
undertakes an online educational program for school health
and biology teachers, Access Excellence, which drew a record
six million "hits" and over 600,000 individual visitors
in the last month alone and other initiatives aimed at educating
the public about health.
