Concept and Mission
With support from The Robert
Wood Johnson Foundation, the National Health Museum (NHM)
is joining with leading national organizations and institutions
to undertake The National Public Health Partnership (NPHP),
an initiative designed to improve public health by fostering
dialogue between the nations public health and museum
and science center communities. During Phase 1 (culminating
in May 2003), the NPHP will bring together museum and science
center institutions and professionals with the individuals
and organizations working in the nations public health
arena to assess needs and identify opportunities to work together
toward common goals. A Phase 2 of the NPHP is also envisioned,
which could include the final production and dissemination
of the Phase 1 deliverables, implementation of NPHP activities
as prioritized in Phase 1, and development of a plan to support
an ongoing, sustainable Partnership.
The National Public Health
Partnership (NPHP) will help bridge the gap between public
health and informal education in museum and science center
settings through robust dialogue and communication that will
advance the quality of and capabilities to support public
health programming in museums and science centers.
